讀樂樂

Stopped my breakfast reading for a while… and it got started again for more than a month ago… coz I ordered 4 books on 1 boring night from amazon.ca. I love being able to read during my stay in the tea restaurant every morning~ It’s good to fill my mind with something useful/interesting/assuring before heading to work.

Getting books from amazon has become my favorite way of buying books… For Chinese books, I love to 打書釘 a lot. But Chinese books are crazy expensive here… So I started getting English books from amazon.ca instead… For buying English books, I pick books by reading lots of reviews before I decide to buy… My latest batch of books should be all good

I’m almost done with reading the 3rd one: The Curious Incident of the Dog In the Night-time. I found myself reading so few novels in these past few years. I think the last novel I read was something I got from HK in 2005. It was a novel called 手機 by a author in Mainland China. And that was surprisingly good! I remember I finished reading it within like 3 days.  Novels used to be what I read MOST OF THE TIME when I was a teenager. I read 赤川次郎’s 三色貓偵探系列,亦舒,lots of 張小嫻 and even 瓊瑤 when I got really bored

Hmm, back to this "Dog" book… It is sooo good! I first heard of it in hocc’s blog. She said she found the cover interesting, and saw different pictures when she flipped through the pages. And it turns out to be a very good book! And then I saw Jess wrote about it again in her blog… That has been quite a while actually~ And that night while browsing at amazon, I just suddenly remember about this book… It is the author’s (Mark Haddon) first book and it is so well-written! The book is written in 1st person narrative, the main character in the book being an autistic teenager~ This guy is a genius in Math and problem-solving, he is like a computer… But being autistic makes him almost inhuman, he is not capable of understanding the simplest human emotions. He is so selfish. I still have 5 pages to go before I finish the book (leaving it for tomorrow’s breakfast…hehe), and I find myself hating him so much now!! It is sad… coz he doesn’t deliberately do things to hurt people around him, but he is just pure annoying… And I become very compassionate towards parents who have autistic kids now…

Since I feel like blogging tonight, I might as well talk about the other 2 books that I finished reading lately…

The last book that I read is… How to Have That Difficult Conversation You’ve Been Avoiding: With Your Spouse, Adult Child, Boss, Coworker, Best Friend, Parent, or Someone You’re Dating (such a long name…). It’s a book about having fruitful conversations that can have lasting impact on relationships. What I like about it is that its principles are based on passages taken from the Bible. The authors are clinical psychologists who do counselling… In this book, they talk about the attitudes we show to the people whom we find difficult to deal with… they also talk about it’s important to not assume ourselves are the "righteous" ones, we should first find out whether we contribute in that other person’s problems… They talk about tonnes of other things that I can’t summarize here. I can only say that I’ve been enlightened after reading this book… What they said makes a lot of sense, but they are things that we don’t usually pay attention to.

And the book I read before that… hehe… I feel embarrassed to say I read it, but I’m glad that I did. It’s called Lady in Waiting

Hmmm.. So this book are for Christian women… It’s a must-read for women…hmmm, single or not, I think. It’s so easy to feel insecure after being single for a longer period than you expected… This book reminds you about all the characteristics that a godly woman should possess… The author also reminds these single women that the time while being single is actually a "golden time". This freedom is often NOT treasured by many single women… It’s a really good read and I feel my faith is restored somewhat after reading it – not that I’m assured that I’m eventually find someone, it’s that knowing there isn’t anybody in this world who can "complete" me, other than God. So whether that "someone" is there or not, shouldn’t matter that much in the end.

Haha, I think I’ve written enough for tonight~ I just wanna share the good books I read… Check them out!
