One interesting point Fr. Chui brought up in his homily about Jesus’ healing of someone who had 痳瘋… He said that as a result of the man’s spreading of Jesus’ mercy, Jesus couldn’t enter the city, but to stay in the wilderness. By healing this man, Jesus actually swapped place with this guy, it was this guy who was unclean, who was isolated in the wilderness… After healing, Jesus became the one who couldn’t enter the city and had to stay in the wilderness… When we think about it, yes… Jesus’ salvation is indeed about swapping place with us. Barnabas the murderer was supposed to be crucified, but then he was freed, Jesus turned out to be the one who took his place on the cross… Jesus is supposed to be the most high, but He came into this world to be the most humble, to bear the worst suffering that no one human would bear…

One more thing that Fr. Chui reminded us about… that only if Jesus is willing, our wish shall be granted… In our petitions, we usually just ask for stuff… We almost forget that God should be the ultimate one who decides what to give us. When we ask for something and don’t get it, we get discouraged… even worse, we become "mad" with God… It’s good to be reminded that we need to be humble when we ask for stuff… God must have good reasons if He decides not to grant us things that we ask for… I need to reminder myself to be more  客氣 in my prayers… to always add 如果你願意 before whatever I want to ask…

  1. Maria says:
